“Gujarat International Finance Tec-City: A New Glittering Global City Among Chaos”

In this presentation we will learn about the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT), which has been conceptualized as a modern city that will rank among the best financial centers in the world. It will be built on 500 acres of land with tall buildings and a 410 meter high signature tower to provide high quality physical & social infrastructure. With infrastructure and facilities benchmarked to global standards, the city will incorporate all aspects of modern development. The project envisages an eventual built up area of up to 75 million sq. ft in phases. Land for
the Project has already been allotted.


Mr Hari Sankaran is the Managing Director & CEO of Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS), located in Mumbai, India. After completing his Masters in Economics from the London School of Economics, Mr Sankaran developed a career in the areas of Project Finance, Infrastructure Development and Management, Regulation and Public Policy. His primary interest has been to understand the relationship between Communities, Infrastructure Development and Economic Growth

IL&FS is a leading Indian Investment Banking Institution that plays a variety of roles in the infrastructure sector.
These roles range from project advisory to project sponsorship, development, and management of infrastructure projects. In addition, the Institution offers a wide range of project finance, investment and merchant banking
support to infrastructure projects. In essence, IL&FS focus is to ensure the successful completion of projects
to cost, time and standards and to its sustainability and value management thereafter

Over the past 20 years, the Organization has pioneered the concept of Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) arrangements in infrastructure in India and has expanded its footprint from telecom, power and roads to several
other sectors. As of date, IL&FS focus sectors include, power, telecom, surface transport, roads, airports, ports,
water and sanitation, environment and social, urban infrastructure, education, integrated infrastructure solutions to SMEs, etc. The present IL&FS project pipeline across all these sectors exceeds USD 30 bn

IL&FS works closely with a number of stakeholders: Government, Financial Institutions, Funds and Banks, Private Sector Companies, Community Based Organisations, Community Representatives, etc. In essence, the specific role play is to achieve and manage congruence in relation to each aspect of a project, within a specified framework, of all stakeholders to ensure that the project becomes a reality on a self sustaining and value accretive basis
