“Building Information Modelling (BIM) – A Modern Vehicle for Transferring Structural Design Information”

This presentation will examine how engineers, contractors and the entire design team can exchange project information using BIM, by linking ‘best of breed’ computer applications. Project information in the form of structural, architectural and HVAC objects, can be transferred between systems for design and manufacturing purposes, from the conceptual stage to construction and maintenance. Industry file format standards (ifc, cis/2 etc) will be discussed together with transfer vehicles formed using Application Program Interfaces (API) and .NET technologies. Also model-based information review will be considered using visual clash checking and report generation methodologies. Some sample projects will be presented including the Shanghai World Financial Centre.
