“Tall Building Trends: 2010, 2020 and beyond”

Using tall buildings data and statistics, this presentation will explain trends over time relating to building uses and locations. Statistics covering the past decades will be compared to the present situation with hypothetical trends that could be drawn for the next years. Selected tall buildings types will be presented to stress diverse uses and the specificity of some tall buildings according to their location. Eventually, considering the number of tall buildings completed during the last century, hypothetical figures will be drawn allowing us to try figuring out what could be the total number of tall buildings by the year 2020.

Biography
Georges Binder began his career in real estate as an analyst in the property arm of Brussels-based AG Group, now Fortis Real Estate. In 1990, he left the firm, then Belgium’s largest real estate owner and investor, to join Swedish developer Residentia in the position of research manager.

In 1992, Georges Binder founded BUILDINGS & DATA SA, a limited company that specialises in marketing, research studies and editorial and media services in the fields of architecture and real estate.

BUILDINGS & DATA SA’s portfolio of architecture and real estate documentation has been compiled over a period of more than 30 years and comprises information, plans and images of major architectural works and real estate from around the world. Stored in a database and a 100-square-metre library, this collection focuses primarily on thousands of high-rise projects of all types from around the globe and the buildings of the 12 million-square-metre Brussels office market. As managing director of BUILDINGS & DATA SA, Georges Binder works directly with architects and developers and is regularly invited to collaborate on publications, conferences and cultural exhibitions about tall buildings.

Since 1993, Georges Binder has also been an active member of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, USA.
