Remaking of Mumbai Federation is a non-profit federation of around 50 stakeholder associations and institutions working towards urban renewal of Mumbai as a replicable model for the urban areas of India. It proposes inclusive, win-win and self financing model of redevelopment of the inner city of Mumbai consisting of around 32,000 old and dilapidated buildings, to create a World Class urban area.

Mumbai is bursting at the seams due to influx of migrants from other parts of the country to this financial magnet. The resultant of all this is an overpopulated city with an unbearable load on a crumbling infrastructure and pressure on every available open space. Awkward and incremental planning has compounded the problems.

In consonance with the guidelines and suggestions of various government policies, judicial comments and expert opinion, it is proposed to remake Mumbai, into a world class city in partnership with the government using principles of modern technology, planning and engineering by creation of “Remaking of Mumbai Federation”.

The objectives of the Federation are:
  • Protection to life and property of over 2.5 million people who live in these old dilapidated houses

  • Deliberate planning process for the entire city of Mumbai

  • Increase and augmentation of infrastructure to meet the requirements of this modern economic capital of India

  • Creation of housing stock for the poor

  • Setting standards of excellence in constructing buildings using engineering and technological advances in this developing country

  • Transform horizontal urban space to tall buildings with lots of open spaces, amenities and play grounds

  • Improve the quality of life of 16 million people of Mumbai

  • And, as a result of the above, transform Mumbai into a WORLD CLASS CITY
